How to Wash Graphic Tees Without Wrecking the Print

A practical wash-day routine for keeping graphic tees clean, sharp, and ready for the next wear.

Nighttime streetwear campaign with graphic apparel

A graphic tee earns its place by being worn. The goal is not to treat it like a museum piece. Give the print and fabric a little less friction, a little less heat, and a much better shot at staying sharp through the laundry cycle.

Start with the label

Before you do anything, check the sewn-in care label. Your own garment’s label gets the final say on how it can be cleaned, dried, ironed or bleached.

Keep the routine simple

Turn the tee inside out, use cold water and a gentle cycle when the label allows, and avoid rough items in the load. Air drying is a cautious choice. If a dryer is allowed, use low heat and remove the tee promptly.

Finish with low friction

Do not scrub the graphic or iron directly over it. When it is fully dry, use a relaxed fold that keeps sharp creases out of the artwork. Our graphic tee folding guide shows a simple way to do that.

Graphic tee folding FAQ

Should I fold or hang graphic tees?

For most everyday graphic tees, a relaxed fold is a practical default. It keeps a drawer easy to scan and avoids putting a hanger's pressure in one place on the shoulders. If a particular garment label or fabric calls for hanging, follow that garment's instructions.

Can folding crack a graphic print?

A fold alone does not automatically damage a print. The cautious move is to avoid making a sharp crease straight through a large graphic, especially when the shirt will sit folded for a long time. Keep the garment clean and fully dry, use broad folds, and do not overpack the stack.

How should I store graphic tees in a small space?

Fold each tee to a consistent footprint, then stand the folded shirts upright in a drawer or bin so you can see each one at a glance. A divider can help the row stay tidy. Avoid forcing too many shirts into one space.

Should I put graphic tees in plastic bins?

A clean, dry bin can be useful for a seasonal rotation. Make sure the tee is completely dry first and do not seal in moisture. The garment's label still leads on any special fabric or care needs.
